Steve Moore

Steve Moore

Steve Moore, Managing Funeral Director at River View Cemetery Funeral Home, was born and raised in Portland, and is a descendant of Oregon Pioneers.

Steve graduated from St. Mary’s Cathedral Grade School, Lincoln High School and the University of Oregon.  He completed his Funeral Service Education program at Mt. Hood Community College in 1973.

He and his wife, Peggy, have four sons.  During the summers, they all play together on a church softball team and Peggy still watches some of the games while keeping an eye on their three grandchildren as well.

Steve feels each family choosing River View deserves the best service and care that a funeral home and cemetery can provide.  He joined the staff of River View in 2004, shortly after the funeral home opened.

Gary J. Sands

Gary J. Sands

Gary Sands began working at River View Cemetery Funeral Home as funeral director and embalmer in July of 2006.  Gary has worked in the funeral industry since June of 1976 beginning his career in Milwaukie, Oregon.

He married his college sweetheart, Nancy Yates in 1974, and together they have eight children and currently ten grandchildren.  Gary has volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts of America in troop and pack units (scoutmaster, cubmaster) as well as district positions (district advancement commissioner and unit commissioner).  He has been involved with local service clubs, three times serving as past president of the Sunnyside & Eastbank Kiwanis Clubs in Portland. Other past civic involvement include; Red Cross Blooddrive Coordinator and donor, Oregon Executives, Vice President and member of the board on the Hawthorne Boulevard Business Association, and Gary received an appointment on the Citizen’s Advisory Commission by Mayor Vera Katz to oversee the Hawthorne Boulevard Transportation Plan.  Gary is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in a variety of ward and stake leadership positions including Milwaukie Stake Mission President, Milwaukie Stake High Council, and led the Milwaukie Ward as their bishop.

Gary chose to come to River View Cemetery Funeral Home because he was impressed with the warm, friendly and consumer oriented honesty, displayed by the staff and management.  A simple philosophical idea, that families who have experienced a loss, should be allowed to select only the services and merchandise they want led Gary to select River View Cemetery Funeral Home to complete his working career.

Christina Perkins-Schmalle

Chris was born and raised in the Portland Metropolitan area. In 1998, she graduated from the Mt. Hood Community College Funeral Service Education program earning an Associates of Science Degree. While at college, Chris was elected to the office of secretary for the Mt. Hood Chapter of Sigma Ph Sigma, a National Funeral Service Fraternity. Prior to completion of her degree, Chris served her internship at a funeral home in Tigard and ended up accepting a full-time position with them as a licensed funeral director/embalmer.

Ms. Perkins began working at River View Cemetery Funeral Home in 2005. Her original focus with River View was public relations for the cemetery and assisting families through her work as a director at the funeral home. She has organized and directed services for those who have suffered the loss of a child by conducting the Annual Children's Memorial Day Candlelight Vigil Service held at the base of the Angel of Hope Statue on the grounds of River View Cemetery. This is one of her proudest achievements along with the other Holiday Services that she has directed. Currently, she is working full-time at the funeral home as a licensed funeral director/embalmer.

Chris' pride and joy is her son Kyler. She loves spending quality time with him witnessing his growth and progress...when time avails itself Chris can be found enjoying her hobbies of hiking with her dog, camping and antiquing.
